In late September 2007, I left San Diego to start college at UC Santa Barbara. With my best friend (and Maid of Honor), Erin, as my roommate we were ready to make college our own. Our first big adventure led us to the third floor, South Tower of the infamous Francisco Torres (“F.T.”) building.

Lucky for me, the random selection of dorm assignments placed Wes across the hall.

After moving in, our Resident Assistant had us participate in an icebreaker. We had to partner-up and share some personal facts about ourselves, and in turn they would share the interesting tid-bits with the rest of the floor.

When sharing a random fact about Wes, his partner said, “He’s won over $50,000 playing a video game that he’s ranked #1 in the world.” I remember turning to Erin at that moment and jokingly whispering to her, “There is my sugar daddy.”

Little did I know, he’d actually be my husband one day.
